Mixed reactions trail postponement of February Elections In Bauchi By Masoyi Lusa, Bauchi

Following the INEC Postponements of Presidential and National Assembly and Governorship and State Assembly polls, which were originally scheduled to hold on February 14 and 28, will now take place on March 28 and April 11, 2015 respectively.

The postponements trails mixed reactions in Bauchi state, our correspondent who spoke to cross section of Bauchi residents

Mr Austine Jammes Luksi  a public commentator in Bauchi said, “We should be forgetting about the conduct of any elections this year. March 28 and April 11 don’t look feasible.

” I see a game plan with a new Federal Government drama script of a so called “war” against Boko Haram that will lead to the President using his constitutional powers in March 2015 to declare a state of emergency that the country is at war and then push the election further by six months in the first instance and subsequently” he said

According to him, already a clergy in this country has warned that “to postpone February polls is tenure elongation”.

Austine Luksi  said that  those in government including the service chiefs who know they will be sacked IF the President leaves office finally on May 29, 2015 will not allow Goodluck Jonathan to handover power to anyone.

Mallam Nuhu Baba, the shifted of election by INEC might undermine the democracy of this country because there is possibility of Nigerians to take to the street because we have been polarised along religion Ethnic divide

He pointed out that this is  giving an opportunity for the Army to take over. the ball less Nigerian Army.

‎“Because it was once reported  that they will rather handover to the army than handover to General  Buhari so these are all instances”. Nuhu Baba said

Alhaji Ibrahmi Tilde  PDP Member said “the postponement is in order as it will give the security agencies to finish what they started on the issue of insecurity, it will also allow more Nigerians to collect their PVCs. “What is worth doing well”

A member of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Bauchi State, Haruna Dukku, condemned the postponement of the polls.

He said, even some of the PDP members are unhappy with the postponement of the February general elections because the party in Bauchi State is ready for the elections.

“However, we want to call on Nigerians to be law abiding and shun all acts capable of breaching the peace and unity of Nigeria.
