There is a massive gas pipeline leakage around the Ikeja area of Lagos and residents have been advised not to put up any fire.
The leakage was noticed around 8am on Wednesday and responders from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), both Federal and State fire services are currently on their way to commence repair work.
It was gathered that the leakage is from a pipeline that supplies gas to the industries in the Ikeja industrial area.
The police from Area B Command, Ikeja, has cordoned off the area ahead of the arrival of responders.
The South-West Region Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, in a WhatsApp message, advised people to try as much as possible to avoid the area.
He said: “Residents around Computer Village/Underbridge, Awolowo Way and Oba Akran axis, Onifowose Street, Medical Road must not open shops or use open naked fire for safety reasons.
“Distressed alert just received indicates massive leakage of gas pipeline around these areas. Let us take utmost safety precautions” he added.
