No fewer than 100 Trailers leaves Maigatari International Market in Jigawa State every week to supply cows to various part of the country. The Maigatari market is one of the major markets in Jigawa state and one of the leading market in Northern Nigeria in terms of animals and farm produce, also the market is known for its business transactions where millions of business men and women visits the market from neighboring country use for purchases.
Our reporter who visited the market was opportune to interview the local government chairman of the Maigatari Local Council, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, in his interview, the chairman stated council had generated over N16 million from January to date, as he said that every week revenue collector from the local government collect over N500, 000 every week as local government revenue from individual buyers and sellers

According to him he said that the council used some part of the money collected from the market to evacuate the drainage which was blocked by sand and refuse, as well as construction of new drainage in the market with a view to beautifying the market in order to entertain their customers.
The chairman further stated that the council has spent over N30 million naira to modernize the market to a standard level that could compete with any modern market in the world, as he also said that the essence of doing that is to attract customers.
In the area of human development the council chairman stated that over 46 villages  has been connected with the national grid and that  motorized water system has been constructed in each of the 46 villages with a view of giving  portable drinking water to communities in the area
He stated further that in the area  that in the area of security the council has employed the services of Operation Salama ,Police ,SSS, Civil Defense and Hisba official as well as Custom and Immigration official all in a bid  ensure that lives and properties of business men and women is protected during the market day and after.
The chairman stated that the council spends over N2.5million every month to fuel the generating plant and also settle the allowances of all security officials working in the area as security is very important due to the fact that Maigatari market is a border market that is close to the Niger border, he further said that because of good understanding and peace between Niger and Jigawa state Maigatari local government has been giving free treated water treatment some part of Niger communities in the area.

According to the council boss, he said that it is part of the local government resolution to maintain the old relationship between the two sister state by providing them with social amenities that will improved their living standard as sisters and brothers.
He hinted that that recently the local government has established a 9 man committee meet and take decisions that are aimed at making sure the communal clashes between farmers and Fulani and Farmers are settled.

The Chairman also said that the Maigatari Market is expected sending over 200 trucks of grains from the market to other parts of the country and other nations.
