At Last Al-Makura Bows To Nasarawa NLC’s Demand, Reverts Back to Payment of Full Salary

The National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress has applauded it members in the country for their doggedness, resilience and commitment for their solidarity in the struggle for workers’ right.
The NLC President, Ayuba Wagba gave the indication while addressing Nigerian workers that converged at the labour House along Makurdi road Lafia to protest salary cut of the current regime under Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
Wagba appealed to workers in Nasarawa state to remain calm and resolute following the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission, saying the NHRC directed the State Government to reverse back to the statues quo by paying full salary to its civil servants.
He further asserted that the commission also gave a marching order to the Nigeria Labour Congress not to embark on peaceful protest and rally in the state.
“As law abiding citizens we have abided by the directive of the National Human Rights Commission not to embark on rally or protest in solidarity of workers in Nasarawa state”, said Wagba.
The Labour President reiterated that collective bargaining needs to be considered as he said governors should suspend illegal deduction of workers salary, adding that the NLC will continue to resist any attempt that would subject civil servants to dangers.
“The habit of illegal salary deduction should be discarded, other hiccups faced by workers according to the NLC president include
- Workers should not be subjected to brutality
- Not to jeopardize the interest of workers
- Workers should not compromised when it comes to welfare
“Workers needed upward review of salary not salary cut, he however called on civil servants to always fight back for their right”.
Saying Nigeria Labour Congress few years fought back over hours of service and was reduced to the present hours of service by civil servants.
Ayuba Wagba sued for unity amongst its members as he said an injury to one is an injury to all, on the death of it two members who were murdered by the police at government house, the president called for a full-fledged investigation into the killings by bringing the murderers to book, the NLC prayed for the reposed of their deceased.
The NLC also demanded for the full compensation of its colleagues as he said the death of the two members shall never be in vain.
Those in the entourage also include the National Presidents of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Construction Workers Union, RATTAWU among others.
