Lassa Fever Kills Medical Doctor In Specialist Hospital Lafia

A Medical personnel in Dalhatu Specialist Hospital Lafia, has been confirmed death after contacting Lassa fever from his patients, The widespread of Lassa fever has continued to pervade Lafia, The Nasarawa state capital.

Ibrahim Oshafu’s death bring the death toll to about 2 victims while scores are hospitalized after being diagnosed with the scourge mostly in Lafia, While one of the victim that died is from Obi Local Government, Oshafu was among the members of the rescue team in DASH, He has been buried according to Islamic injunction.

Reports reaching universalreporters247.com unfolded that medical personnel from Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia are ready for a strike action over the death of their colleague, Ibrahim Oshafu who died recently after contracting Lassa fever from unidentified patient while on duty, The medical personnel are demanding that Government should provide an up to-date facilities to replaces the obsolete machines in use.

It would be recalled that one person has been confirmed death of Lassa Fever, while 4 suspected patients were placed on watch at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Dr. Edego Egba ,The chairman medical Advisory committee of the hospital confirmed this to selected Journalists.

He further explained that the first victim that died, held from Akaleku in Obi Local Government, He in addition maintained that three (3) of the suspected victims tested negative while other victims said that the other victims are responding to treatment, Dr.Egba affirmed that all the cases are from southern senatorial zone.

The medical expert described Lassa Fever as a known air born disease, Calling on people of the state to ensure a hygienic environment, Answering question on the presence of drugs and certified laboratory for testing of the endemic disease.

The chairman medical Advisory committee of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) however asserted that drugs were made available by the Federal and State Government respectively.

But chairman of Obi Local Government could not be reached, as it was said that he issaid he is attending to a meeting at Lafia Local Government and promised to call back, however as at press time he could not be reached.
