Lalong , Useni Shuns CAN Women Wing Debate

The chairperson of a faith base organization, Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWCAN ) Plateau State Chapter, Mrs.  Rhoda Jihota has tasked politician to eschew politics of hate speech and bitterness and embrace defeat in the forthcoming 2019 general election.

The Gubernatorial candidates’ debate organized by WOWCAN held at Zumji events centre Bukuru express way, women wing of CAN demand for free, fair and credible elections by appealing to all candidates to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner.

Jihota says, “women expressed displeasure with the absence of the candidates especially the People Democratic Party, PDP, candidate Sen Jeremiah Timbut Useni and that of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Gov. Simon Bako Lalong who are conspicuously absconded “.

According to her, she called on women to shun politics of “Maggi” and “Salt sharing” as such remain the bane towards a productive education and infrastructure.

She urged candidates vying for governorship, Senate, Federal House of Rep to focus on transparence and accountable process   as the main framework in advancing our democracy.

The women leader lamented that  the lack of women involvement of in  Nigeria  political space called for urgent important by allowing women full active participation ,stressing that while countries loke Rwanda and Senegal are creating political space for women “ except  Nigeria women who  hold less than 8% of the position in government”  compare to their “Men counterpart “ 

Lt Jeremiah absent at the event which mark his second time when he has failed to appear in a public debate, a situation many think it’s not good for his popularity.

The APC Simon Bako Lalong was also absent represented by the commissioner of information Yakubu Datti  apologise.

Candidates who grace the occasion include Brigadier General John Timlong, (ADP), Mr Godfrey Miri (SDP) Mr Alex Ladan (ANN) and Dan Auta Kyershik (ABP).

The candidates express different ideologies and policy to implement when voted into office.

The climax of the event is the MOU of commitment by the women to hold all the candidates accountable after elections.

The event is the first of its kind in recent plateau history as women had the opportunity to seek clarifications in many areas of doubt.
