Lafia Stadium To Get Astro-Turf Soon-Deputy Governor

Following Directive by League Management Company, LMC to the  Nasarawa United football Club to play their home matches in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, Nasarawa State government has assured that the Lafia city stadium would be fitted with artificial astro-turf in no distant future.

The state owned football club ordered to Makurdi by league management body because the facilities in the Lafia city stadium had not measured up to the minimum requirements for hosting premier league matches.

Mr. Silas Agara, the state Deputy Governor  made this known in Lafia on Wednesday when he played host to Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (Swan), Nasarawa state branch, in his office.

He regrettably said that despite the huge investment the state is making in the club, citizens of the state don’t get to see their team play. “Government is not resting on its oars towards ensuring that both Nasarawa United and the female team, Nasarawa Amazons, who are currently playing their home games in Makurdi are brought back to the state” he maintained.

Adding that “arrangements are underway for the Lafia stadium to be fitted with astro-turf”.

Mr. Agara lamented further that shortage of sports administrators was hampering the development of sports in the state and urged citizens to prioritise investing in sports administration which he says has enormous economic and social value for overall human capital development.

The Deputy Governor also called on individuals and corporate bodies to invest in the sponsorship of sporting events, even as he called for greater synergy between sports writers and management of sports unions in the state.”
