Kano Government To Standardize Islamic Preaching – Ganduje

Kano state government would set up a committee to draft a policy that would ensure that Islamic scholars solely propagate orthodox knowledge is to their followers.”This is very important because the understanding and misunderstanding of Islamic knowledge is the original cause of insurgency in Nigeria and the world over,” the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has hinted.

He dropped the hint while speaking during the opening of an International Qur’anic Conference in Honour of a renowned Qur’anic scholar and businessman, Sheik Ishaka Rabi’u organized by the Center for Qur’anic Studies, Bayero University, Kano, on Thursday.

Dr Ganduje explained that the committee would among other things, study divergent views on religious matters, among the Ulama, with a view to standardizing Islamic preaching and regulating the activities of people who hide under the garb of religion to cause hostility or confusion among the citizenry.

The governor stated that since the state has abundant Ulama and so-called ulama, the government must rise to the challenge of ensuring that the ordinary Muslims are not deliberately misled, adding that unless such measures are taken, the society would remain in the security dilemma”.

The governor appreciated the foresight of the university for honouring the Shaikh Ishaka Rabi’u for his contribution to the development of Qur’anic education especially for building a Qur’ anic Center at the university, describing the gesture as social responsibility that would stand the test of time.

On his part, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abubakar Rashid said the institution would offer courses at the Center for Qur’anicn Studies for those who have not attended formal schools, in order to have a certificates or equivalents of Diploma and Higher National Diploma, which would be recognized by institutions in Nigeria.

He thanked Shaikh Ishaka Rabi’u for associating with the university by building the center, appealing to other wealthy individuals to emulate the gesture by participating actively in moving the university to greater heights.

In his speech, Shaikh Ishaka Rabi’u thanked the University for honouring him, appealing to Muslims in Nigeria to come together as one indivisible entity, as enshrined in the teachings of Islam, pointing out that all of them read the same Qur’an throughout the Muslim world.

Prominent personalities attended the event including Kano based multi-billionaire, Alhaji Aminu Dantata as well as Professors of Islamic/Qur’anic education from across Nigeria, Senegal, Chad, Morocco and USA.
