Jos Prison Attack: The Inside Account Of How It All Happened On Sunday, Why The Facility Was Attacked

Several persons were killed, including one of the Warders on Sunday during a gun battle with notorious criminals who invaded the Jos Correctional Centre, JCC.

This Medium gathered that several bodies have been recovered by officials of the Jos Correctional center(Formerly the Nigeria Prisons) after the  Centre came under attack by gunmen who reportedly stormed the facility in large numbers with sophisticated weapons.

Our reporter has counted as many as six bodies and their Kingpin was the reason why they invaded the JCC, was to free one of their gang leaders who escaped through the whisker.

However, the attackers set some vital documents ablaze before embarking on confronting the security personnel by overpowering them to whisk away the kingpin including over 200 inmates.

It is not clear if the bodies are those of the gunmen who attacked the facility or inmates who attempted to escape, that passed through Tafawa Balewa streets to Apata.

One NCC officer was killed and another shot in the arm when the invaders arrived at the Correctional Center at about 1720hrs on Sunday and immediately made for the main gate where they engaged the armed squad personnel in a gun battle before breaking into the yard.

The front office holding the records of the JCC was set alight by the invaders.

As at the time of writing this report officials of the Jos Custodial center were still trying to ascertain the extent of damage to the facility, took headcounts of the inmates, and positively identify the bodies to be sure if or not the invaders are among the dead.

In the Meantime, Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has condemned in strong terms the attack on the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Jos describing it as unfortunate.

The Governor, however, praised the gallantry of the officers and men of the Jos Correctional Centre who rose to the occasion to thwart the plans of the criminals whose mission was to facilitate the escape of inmates and also cause destruction to the facility.

it was gathered that Prison wardens are armed, police headquarters have armed policemen is very close to, A Division, DSS, STF, Area Command has armed policemen, area command has armed policemen, DSS office has armed personnel,  also armed with the army who have killed plateau citizens countless times.

They followed to escape as they trekked through routes, creating panic and tension walking majestically on their escape it is true,  they are alleged to be either Boko Haram speaking  Fulfulde .

Our correspondent gathered that sometimes in June Fulani’s militia ambushed a vehicle conveying them to court, they attack and free the culprit who is standing trial of murder and manslaughter.

The second attempt that came into the attack was in August 2021 this same year when the Jos Correctional Center was attacked and the assailants freed all their Fulani’s syndicate.

The third incident was that of Sunday the 28th November 2021 when the yard came into a heavy gun battle with security personnel and they were able to free the people they came to free.
