Jigawa APC Crisis Deepens, As Suspended Chairman, Rejects Suspension

Umar Akilu Majeri

The internal crisis within Jigawa All Progressive Congress (APC) has deepened as the embattled party chairman Alhaji Habibu Sani Sara has rejected his suspension, as he said it is uncalled for.

Speaking to journalists in Dutse yesterday, Habibu Sara said, the earlier announcement given by the party secretary for his suspension was illegal, unconstitutional, and a calculated attempt to create confusion and division within the party.

Habibu Sara added that it is only the party chairman that has the right to call for party caucus meeting and any meeting called by other persons was unconstitutional and all the decision taken there is null and void.

The suspended chairman also lambasted some of the party caucuses who are accusing him of sympathizing with some party gubernatorial aspirants describing the allegation as baseless and mischief and they lack any iota of truth.

Habibu Sara then called on the APC members in the state to remain calm, as he promised to lead the party with justice, fairness, and transparency.

The chairman also announced that any eligible party member has the constitutional right to contest for any party ticket and promised to ensure a level playground for all party members irrespective of social and economic status.

Habibu Sara was last Monday suspended from the party as chairman after a marathon meeting of the state party caucus held at Government House in Dutse, the State capital.

An impeccable source from the party revealed that the state party secretary Muhd Dikuma Umar was asked to take over the party affairs pending further announcements for the next line of action.

All efforts to get the reasons behind the suspension of the acting chairman proved abortive as all the caucus insisted that a communique of the meeting would be issued later to the press and as at the time of filing this report no copy of a press release has been issued by the caucus of the party.
