JIBWIS Secretary Calls On Outgoing President To Maintain Statusquo By Yakubu Busari, Jos

National Secretary Council of Ulama Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Alhassan Saed Adam, has called on the outgoing Federal Government to maintain the statusqou of handing over power to the in-coming administration of Muhammadu Buhari as provided by the law.

Sheikh Alhassan, who is also a member of JIBWIS board of trustees, and director of education, made the urge yesterday at his residence, in Jos during press briefing.

The cleric stated that best of speculations that he has been reading on the social media which reads that the outgoing administration of President Goodluck Jonathan is trying to handover, on May, 28, to him that will bring a kind rancour in the system.

He said since the nation’s constitution has stipulated that the 29 of May, 2015, is the day in which such handing over is done and should be done as was the statusqou, the federal Government should maintain same.

“It is lawfully agreed by Nigerians that every May 29, should be the handing over day, I urged that it should be so, in other for us not to put the country into confusion,” he said.

Sheikh Alhassan, who used the event and congratulated the President-Elect, and Plateau State Governor-elect Muhammadu Buhari as well as Barrister Simon Bako Lalong respectively, said Nigerians should thank Allah, who has made it possible to effect the long anticipated change.

“Nigerians both Muslims and Christians should be patience enough and also pray for them.

“Nigerians should not expect that they will change things to good within a short time, we should not expect a kind of magic,” Sheikh Alhassan urged.

The cleric further admonished the incoming federal Government to ensure prompt and adequate payment of the nation’s security operatives.

He said: “Adequate advance equipments should be provided to them, and ensure that the right things are done in order to protect lives and properties of Nigerians.”

He congratulated Nigerians general for conducting their selves peacefully before, during and after the elections.
