Following the alleged rumoured death of Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the April 11 governorship election in Plateau State, Senator Gyang Pwajok, Berom Youths yesterday went on rampage attacking motorists along Riyom, Jos South and Barkin Local Governments.
The irate Youths claimed that the heard about his rumoured death around 5:30pm on air that the gubernatorial candidate who was flown outside the country for treatment died in the early hour.
An In-law to one of the victims who is currently receiving treatment at Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jankwano , Jos said at about 10pm on Wednesday his father Inlaw was returning a trip around Riyom Abuja road some group of suspected Beroms youth came out in their numbers attacking motorists with heavy weapons .
Alh Dauda Adams popularly called ” ECOMOG” explained he was still mourning the victims of Jos bomb blast when a call came in that his In-law was left half dead, so on getting to the scene of the sporadic gun shots, we saw him laying down in pull of his blood.”
He added that after rushing to Plateau Hospital and Jos University Teaching Hospital the Doctors told us that all the beds are occupied with patients. However, we decided to take him to Jankwano where his currently receiving medical attention.
Adams called on the Federal government to ensure the safety of travellers especially in this period of hard time.
Responding on the alleged rumoured death of the PDP gubernatorial candidate his spokesman, Chuwang Dung said in a statement that Plateau State woke up to the rumour on Wednesday that Pwajok was dead, prompting the response by Dung who is the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Pwajok, he hinted thus that Pwajok was hale and hearty contrary to the rumour.
“There is no truth to the rumour, Senator GNS Pwajok is alive,” Dung said, that Pwajok laughed off the rumour when he spoke on phone with him early Wednesday.
Pwajok fought a close battle in the April governorship election, losing narrowly to the eventual winner and now governor, Simon Lalong, and the rumour has long been rife in Plateau State that Pwajok had gone down with stroke following the disappointment of the governorship election, but Dung equally dismissed that, stressing that it was all the imagination of certain people.
In a statement which he later mailed to Journalists yesterday afternoon, Dung said, “Our attention has been drawn to rumours being peddled by some mischievous elements that distinguished Senator Gyang Nyam Pwajok , the Plateau state Peoples Democratic Party, PDP gubernatorial candidate in the last election is dead.
We wish to use this medium to assure the citizens of Plateau State and confirm with clarity that Sen. GNS Pwajok is alive, hale and hearty and is enjoying his holiday abroad.”
The statement placed the rumour on the door step of people who he said were not comfortable with what could come from a healthy GNS Pwajok:
“We are not oblivious of the fact that the unfolding mischief is a publicity strategy to distract the teeming supporters of GNS Pwajok from the ongoing judicial arbitration process which is highly in our favour. We however remain resolute and focused on reclaiming our mandate given to us by the good people of Plateau State.
We advise the fabricators of such malicious agenda to find other means of channelling their panic as God is the giver of life and He alone determines the life of all mortals.”
