Imo NURTW Holds Workshop For Drivers, Union Members On Management Of Security Consciousness

As part of his ceaseless efforts in the combat against insecurity in the society, the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Imo State Chapter under the Chairmanship of the Union Chairman was on Saturday, April 9th 2022, successfully held a one-day-sensitization-workshop for the interests of all the union members and drivers operating in the state.

The theme of the seminar:” The Role of Drivers in Maintenance, Management, Security Consciousness, Accident Reduction, and Traffic Management On The Road in Imo State and in Nigeria”.

In an address presented by the Imo State Secretary, Comr. Franklin Uchehara, JP,  he expressed profound gratitude and gladness on the large turnout of drivers and members of the union from the 27 LGA’s of the state.

Uchehara, who therefore seized the opportunity, encouraged all the drivers to put all they heard and learned during the seminar into practice, even as he advised them to obey traffic laws as men on the wheel.

From the day workshop, papers were presented by men and women of intellectual capacities cutting across from the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Police Force,NPF, and some other statutory security agencies in Imo State.

Paper 1 was presented by the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, through the Route Commander, Mr.F.E. Nwoko, who harped on Re-orientation of Traffic Rules and Code of Conducts on the way and Human Relation Skills.

Paper 2 was presented by ASP Maryann Otunne, of the Nigerian Police who spoke on Security Awareness Crime Prevention and Control.

Paper 3 also presented by the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC , on Prevention of Accident, Psychology and Safety Management.

While Paper 4 was about Drivers as the image-makers of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Imo State.

Highlights of the workshop which took place at the Heroes Square New Owerri Area of Imo State, was the presentation of the Award of Certificates to all the members of the Imo State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

In his keynote address, the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Hon.Comr.Sam Udeh, (Ezeumuokorobia), expressed satisfaction for the one-day workshop organized by the NURTW leadership under his watch.

He, therefore, stated that the programme is aimed and targeted at improving mental, and intellectual capacity and the driving skills of the members of the union.

At the seminar, the Imo Commissioner for Transport, Hon.Rex Anunobi, expressed satisfaction to witness the large crowd amongst members of the union and drivers in the transport sector in the state, as he appealed to them to obey traffic rules for their own interests.

Adding his voice, the Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor, Sen.Hope Uzodinma on Security Affairs, Hon. Dan Opara, (Rtd. Commissioner of Police), commended the leadership of Imo NURTW led by the State Chairman, Comr.Udeh, and also extolled the presence of the union members and drivers for making the seminar a huge success.

He said, ” I am delighted to be in your seminar, and on my capacity as a security expert, we shall always dwell in partnership with the union”.

Gov.Uzodinma’s Aide on Security, while speaking, assured Imo drivers and members of the union of effect and cordial relationship, as he promised to work in synergy with all the commercial drivers operating in Imo State.

Meanwhile, the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Comrade Sam Udeh (Ezeumuokorobia), empowered the programme, and thanked God and men of the wheel in the state for making the seminar a reality.

Udeh, in his words, ” I am grateful and involved immensely because I have the interests of the union at heart. I am poised to deliver. We are directly involved because we are the worst hits as it concerns insecurity of lives and properties of the people as drivers. But we are trying to re-educate and re-orient our men to be able to stand against the potential will of insecurity in the course of their duties as drivers”.

Amb.Udeh, therefore, encouraged those  (drivers in Imo) who participated in the seminar to apply caution and knowledge of all they have learned from the workshop while discharging their duties as drivers.

The highlight of the seminar was the award of certificates of participation to all the drivers that paid keen attention during the seminar.
