As part of building a very strong, formidable and united front as practicing Journalists operating in various media houses in Imo State, members of media (News Reporters) in the electronic and print organizations have collectively held its maiden election exercise successfully.

 

The Registered Journalists under the platform of ” Imo State NUJ Federated Chapel”, have elected it’s new Executive Members, with Mr. Emma Chukwu, of the Eastern Lead Express Newspaper, Owerri, emerged as Chairman.

 

Notably, Imo NUJ Federated Chapel is popularly referred to as “Field Reporters(Journalists)”.

 

The election was held on Tuesday, 11th November, 2019, at the popular City Chef Restaurant opposite the Rockview Hotels, Owerri.

 

An Open- Secret-Voting was adopted as Nnamdi Ogwazuo, led the Chairman of the Electoral Committee Team,who saw to the peaceful and free conduct of the election was commended for a successful election exercise.

 

Members who voted in the election were earlier accredited, whereas few unaccredited members were not allowed to vote but rather served as observers.

 

Interim leadership of the Chapel was dissolved shortly after the election.

 

They newly elected Executive was immediately sworn-in by the Electoral Chairman, Nnamdi Ogwazuo, who charged them to maintain the ethics of journalism while working cordially with members to meet their welfare.

 

Making an inaugural speech, Chairman of the Imo NUJ Federated Chapel, Emma Chukwu, vowed to work cooperatively with his exco to move the Chapel on in order to achieve the welfare of the members for which it was founded.

 

According to Emma Chukwu,in his acceptance speech, “l am humbled to be elected as Chairman of our great Chapel, as what happened here today did not happen by chance, it was divine. It coincided with my birthday anniversary. Hence there is need for us to always show love to one another to foster peace and unity for us to be able to go to the Promised Land. We are grateful to have been found worthy to steer the activities of the Chapel”.

 

The new executive members are: Emma Chukwu, as Chairman, Kelechi Ugo,as Vice Chairman, Daniel Opara, aka Danjay, as Secretary, Onyebuchi Onwuchekwa, as Provost, Ibe Alexander as Welfare Officer, Nkechi Ojukwu as Treasurer and Mary Ugorji, as Financial Secretary.

 

The position of PRO and Auditor would be looked into by the executive.
