Imo Not A Banana Republic: Embattled LGA Council Chairmen Tells Ihedioha

Dan Opara

The embattled elected Imo LGA Council Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Councilors and Supervisors in the immediate past administration of Sen. Rochas Okorocha, who were removed by the current Imo Governor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, on Thursday, Dec.19th 2019,in Owerri, took to protest over their removal.

They have therefore called on the Governor of Imo State, Chief Ihedioha to allow the rule of law prevail.

In their assertions via a press conference at the Imo APC party office along Owerri/Okigwe Road, the group released a communique which was signed by the LGA Chairmen which reads: “On the 17th of June 2019, the 27 Local Government Chairmen were illegally suspended by the Government of Chief Emeka Ihedioha. One thing that crossed our minds when the suspension was announced was that the Governor has no powers known to any law of the land to do so.”

“We call on the Government of Imo State to follow the part of rule of law and due process to avoid resorting to self-help in taking over our offices which have been illegally occupied”, according to their communiqué.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after their protest, the embattled LGA Chairman of Ideato South, Chief Hon.Emeka Osuorji, expressed dissatisfaction over their removal by the government of Ihedioha, even as he lamented that they were duly elected to serve into various elective positions during the reign of the immediate past Imo Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha.

“We are supposed to serve for a period of three years, but we are not happy and that was the major reason of our protest. We are very worried at the action of Gov.Ihedioha that triggered our sack and removal from offices. It is highly described as undemocratic”, Chief Osuorji submitted.

He said” Gov.Ihedioha should bear in mind that we are duly elected into various elective positions during Okorocha’s term as Governor, and he should also know that Imo State is a Banana Republic. He should as well obey the rule of law”.
