The Imo State Government and their Taskforce Committee on COVID-19 has been accused of abandoning the 30 persons suspected carriers Coronavirus locked up in a Hotel at World Bank Area of Owerri.

Comr.Chima Chukwunyere, former Imo State Chairman of Police Public Relation Committee, PCRC, who is also the Imo State Chairman of Hoteliers Association, in a press chat with newsmen Thursday, April 2nd 2020 in Owerri, expressed sadness that the Imo State Government seem to have forgotten the suspects as no adequate care or welfare of those in isolation is being provided.

The Hoteliers Chairman, who is the Managing Director of Domino Paramount Hotel Owerri, stated that an SOS from the Manager of the isolated Fancy Hotel Umuguma Road Owerri demanded for urgent assistance for food, electricity, water and cooking gas for those in isolation.

In his words, “hunger, despair and hopelessness have crept in due to non-availability of food and most importantly they cannot communicate with any of their relations due to no gas (diesel) in the hotel’s generator”.

Chief Chukwunyere alleged that the Imo State Govt. only made available a half bag of rice for 30 people who are been quarantined, five sachets of groundnut oil, few tins of tomatoes puree and tubers of yam with few ingredients which has exhausted.

The Hoteliers Chairman added that he personally bought 25 liters of diesel, logs of fire woods and a paint of beans, as well as toiletries which he personally delivered to the isolated Fancy Hotel to save lives.

He therefore called on well-to-do Imo citizens, the govt. and NCDC to expedite actions and do something meaningful to save lives.
