Imo 2019: JDPC Advocates For Credible Election Exercise

It is usually states that democracy gives the masses the opportunity to determine who governs them ,a very popular advocacy group in Imo State ably known as “Justice, Development, Peace and Caritas, JDPC, under the religious  platform of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, on Wed.12th 2018,held a one-day sensitization rally ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The rally which was led by the Director General, JDPC, Rev. Fr. Dr. Gerald Njoku, of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, attracted so many electioneering interests and electoral audience of numerous Imo people on the urgent needs to go and obtain their Permanent Voters Cards, PVC’s in preparation of the 2019 general elections.

The group who trooped out in their large numbers was armed with banner inscriptions, fliers and chanted all kinds of electoral awareness songs from Maria Assumpter Cathedral to Bank roads, down to Okigwe road, through Ikenegbu area, and later navigated to Wethdral to Douglas road and terminated at the Church.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the 5 hours rally in Owerri metropolis, the organizer, Fr. Njoku thanked all members of the group for their show of love and commented the youths for their support.

Dr.Njoku, while speaking, said “power belongs to the people. It is our collective duty and within our powers to choose who leads us, especially as the train for the next year’s polls draws nearer”.

“We are apolitical, we are not partisan but we have keen interest to ensure that the most credible persons are voted into positions of authorities for good governance. We want competence, experienced, credibility in leadership”, Fr. Njoku noted.

“Let us avoid electoral violence, avoid vote selling, let’s shun political apathy and ensure that we visit INEC to collective our PVC’s”, said JDPC DG.

He, therefore, harped on the importance of acquiring PVC’s as such would enable electorates to participate fully in the general election, come February 2019.

Dr. Njoku said, “we are educating the people to completely take charge of their future by voting out wicked government and vote into power good government.”

He enjoined the public to continue to advocate for credible election exercise and said: “speak to your neighbor to speak to their neighbors and above all come out on Election Day, vote, stay to make sure that your votes are counted and recorded on result sheets”.
