The former Member Representing Jos North /Bassa Federal Constituency  Sulieman Kwande has said that once it exceeds the 90 day period stipulated by the constitution dateline of conducting bye-election into the seat of Bassa/Jos North, then the whole thing will then become a dead representation for the Jos North/Bassa Constituency and the people of Plateau State.

Hon. Suleiman Kwande made this disclosure in an exclusive interview with our correspondent over the long delay in conducting bye-election into the seat of Jos North/Bassa which has remained vacant since the demise of late Member, Hon Haruna Maitala who died in a ghastly motor accident.

He disclosed that the vacuum created by the death of Alh Haruna Maitala has brought so many challenges and a lack of dividends of democracy to the constituents of the Jos North /Bassa constituency.

Speaking further he said, however, it is getting to over eight months that the constituency of Jos North/Bassa is without representative and there has not been any contest for the bye-election as many politicians have been left out in the dark without being allowed to participate in choosing the person that will represent them.

Kwande stated that for the remaining few months for the present government to leave office, “we need someone with experience like me to go and lobby for opportunities that would benefit the people of Plateau state.”

He urged the people of Jos North, Bassa constituency to vote for credibility, experience, and integrity that can deliver on continuity, “I have the requisite experience to canvas for federal projects within the shortest period but if this exceeds the next year there won’t be anything for us,” he explained.

Hon Suleiman Kwande emphasized that he has a close association with the chairman on finance, budget MGDs, and other House committee chairmen because all the huddle is just for six months and a new person coming might not understand what is happening.

He lamented that the period that the seat has not been declared vacant is indeed is a big disappointment and a sad thing to have happened to the people of Jos North/Bassa constituency, where there has been recruitment in Customs, Immigration, Police and ongoing replacement and no one from the constituency is benefiting now.

Hon Kwande decried that the staff who are employed to work under the late Member Hon Maitala are no longer there and no one is employed especially from Jos North/Bassa constituency.

He stated thus that the constituency projects money amounting to about N125 million to N130 million meant for the constituency, nobody knows what has happened to it, all I’m saying is that let have members for the constituency representing them at the House of Reps.

According to him, I did a campaign for Speaker Rt. Hon . Femi Gbajabiamila but now that he is the speaker,  I will use my connection to lobby for employment, constituency projects, and empowerment opportunity which is currently being enjoyed by a few people.
