I Will Leave Lafia Branch of NBA, Nasarawa State More United  Than I Met It-NBA Chairman

The Nigeria Bar Association Lafia Wing Nasarawa State has elected its new executive that would pilot the affairs of legal practitioners for two years as he promised to leave the Association better and united than he met it.

The newly inaugurated executive under the leadership of Lafia branch, Barrister Abdullahi Gayam promised to leave the Association more united than he met it on 26 June 2024.

Bar Gayam applauded the grand patron of the Association, Barrister. Afis Adigun for being supportive of the Association, especially at the time of need.

“I will not fail NBA Lafia branch, I will use this opportunity to call on my opponent, Bar. Isa Hassan Nalarabe to partner with us for the sake of the Nigeria Bar Association “.

The outgoing Chairman of the Association, Bar Kigbu Alaku congratulates the new executive of the Nigeria Bar Association, Lafia Wing for the peaceful election.

“I know we are united and matured in doing our things, and what I just witnessed is in us as a profession”.

He prayed for the new crop of executives under the able leadership of Bar. Abdullahi Gayam as Chairman to success, adding that when he took over the mantle of leadership from his predecessor, I inherited a comatose Association in June 2022.

He also revealed that he left the sum of N500, 000 in the coffers of the Association as well a plot of land.

Barrister Afis Adigun, popularly addressed as a grandfather by members of NBA in his speech said the outgoing execution has done well.

According to him, “for the incoming Chairman Bar. Gayam, I’m enthusiastic that he can do it, He added.

Elder Adigun averred that leadership is not a pleasure but a herculean task for them to smoothen the rough edges and unite all members.

“The two Chairmanship contestants, Abdullahi Gayam and Isa Hassan Nalarabe are all qualified”.

He cautioned members not to be divided by election, stating that elections will come and go and NBA will remain, He in addition said former leaders of the Association should be part of NBA Congress.

The Chairman of the electoral committee, Bar. Adi Adoko Mohammed says the outcome of the election was a sign of unity in the Association as he declared Bar. Abdullahi Gayam was the winner of the Chairmanship seat with a total of 112 votes while his opponent Isa Hassan Nararaba polled 103 votes.

He also announced Abundaga Nicholas James who scored 123 votes for the position of Secretary General as winner while his opponent Abigail Musa polled 92 votes.

Onwudine Ignatius Martins polled 114 votes for the seat of Vice Chairman and his opponent, Eberechukwu Chigozie Okafor scored 101 votes.

And lastly, Mohammed Danjuma scored 120 for the position of legal Adviser and his opponent, Okoye Nethuselem Obiora polled 93 votes.

The seven elective positions that were not contested for, that is unopposed are the seats of Assistant Secretary, Financial Secretary, Welfare Secretary, Social Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Secretary (PRO), and Provost.
