I Was Quoted Out Of Context On The Issue Of Payment Of N30,000 Minimum Wage, Says Lalong Commissioner For Information

The Plateau State Commissioner for information and communication, Hon Dan Manjang   has drawn the attention of the general public on news making rounds in some of the social media over a statement credited to him on the new minimum wage.

 

This statement was purported to have been made by the Honourable Commissioner of Information and Communication, Dan Manjang.

 

According to him, the conventional media had reported that the state government is ready to implement the payment of the N30, 000.00 minimum wage without recourse to negotiations on the consequential adjustments.

 

In his press statement, the commissioner said the clarification became necessary for the benefit of the civil servants, saying, I was quoted out of context while awaiting the appropriate authority.

 

Hon Manjang denied the fact that, “there was no need for any negotiation with any group of persons before the implementation”,as he said a committee have been constituted by Governor’s Lalong  to that effect for the  negotiation which is ongoing .

 

He disclosed that, as a responsible government they won’t be speaking with a double mouth to contradict her stand on the Plateau State government policy.

 

Mr. Manjang maintained that the state government has set up a committee to negotiate with labour about the consequential adjustments as directed by the Federal Government based on the peculiarity, sustainability and capacity of each state.

 

He reiterated that government was committed to the welfare of its workers which paramount to the business of government in service delivery.

 

Mr. Manjang appealed to workers and the unions to remain calm while negotiations are on and pending the recommendation of same.
