How Police Inspector Allegedly Raped, Impregnated 15-Year-Old Orphaned Niece , Aborted The Six Months Pregnancy

The chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Nasarawa State, Barrister Rabiatu Addra has given clarification on the 15-year-old Orphaned girl allegedly raped by her uncle, an Inspector of the Nigeria Police with the Special Investigation Bureau (SIB), Lafia.

Addra said contrary to an earlier claim by the Lafia-based Citizen’s Centre for Justice, Leadership and Peace, the association in collaboration with Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) is the one handling the case.

The Chairperson also said that they facilitated and mobilised the police to carry out a thorough investigation leading to the arrest of the Suspects.

In a statement made available, FIDA and SGBV Team together with the Police took the victim of rape to the hospital and paid part of the money for the treatment of the victim.

“Nasarawa State Ministry of Justice further paid the Bill for the DNA test being done as part of the investigation.

“At no point did the Citizen’s Centre for Justice, Leadership and Peace handle nor paid for anything regarding this case.

“FIDA/SGBV Team has long taken over the handling of this case and the investigation is still ongoing by the Police.

“FIDA/SGBV Team is still following up on this matter.

“While pledging our support to the Nigeria Police, we are also calling on them to carry out a thorough investigation to enable the Prosecution of this matter.

“It has become imperative to set the records straight as there has been some misrepresentation regarding the sponsorship of the investigation and status of the case,” the statement reads further.

Addra assured that “FIDA/SGBV is always ready and prepared to always promote, protect and preserve the rights of Women and children”.

The police inspector raped and impregnated the 15-year-old victim and daughter of his younger sister and aborted the 6-month-old pregnancy, Citizens’ Centre for Justice, Leadership and Peace had said in a statement.

“The uncle took advantage simply because her father was dead and her mother was not doing well financially.”
