How Over 300 Women In Different Plateau IDPs Camps Are Raped Always -Plateau Commissioner For Women Affairs Cries Out

The Plateau State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Anna Talatu Musa Izam has raised alarm over how women in different IDPs camps in Plateau are raped always as she added that these women living in different camps across the state are languishing in poverty and are facing rape and sexual molestation especially the girl child.

 

Mrs. Talatu Musa said the attacks going on in Plateau villages has left many women to live in vulnerable conditions, as she said that Ministry had introduced succour to salvage them, even as she said some are sleeping on floors and there is no place for privacy.

 

She hinted that the Governor has ordered them to give them priority and deployed toiletries, wrappers, and clothes to remedy their plights, “so we have to set a committee in place to take care of them through data capturing.

 

She said that; “the committee came up with forms to take the record of all women and children living in the camps, so we will be sure everyone is carried along.

 

Mrs. Izam encouraged women to preach the gospel of peaceful coexistence among their husband, children and to respect other religions, tribes for the progress of the country.

 

Speaking to journalists at her residence in Eto Baba area of Jos North Local Government Area on Friday, Mrs. Izam said; “we still need more enlightenment on the political development of the womenfolk.

 

According to her, women are really trying their very best, “but we still lack enlightenment and awareness amongst us but Governor Simon Lalong’s regime recognized the positive contribution of women in nation building.

 

She commended the resilient and commitment of the APC leaders in the state, saying in 2005 when he was the Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly, Lalong passed a law on child right act into law and coming back he fully implemented it by establishing a court in place to protect the right of the child.

 

Izam explained further that Plateau state is among the states that had already domesticated the child act right and violence against women which the ministry is working hand in hand with the appropriate channel in trying to support the right of women.

 

Izam revealed that Jos North Local Government Area is a very peaceful place and that very soon election would be conducted because at our stakeholders’ meeting we urged the community to preach peace so as to take care of the problem.

 

She advised women embrace lobbying tactics in other to acquire power from the dominant male counterparts which she said is the only solution for leadership.
