How Over 160,000 Bags Of Rice Donated To IDPs By China Wasted And Rotted Away In NEMA Stores (See Photos Inside)
In spite of the very reported issues of hunger and starvation within the camps of the Internally displaced persons across the North-East, where there is also cases of severe malnutrition that has been ravaging children in these IDPs camps, not less than 162,696 bags of rice donated to the IDPs by the Chinese government have been left abandoned and allowed to rot in stores belonging to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Surprisingly, more than one year after that these food items donated by the Chinese were cleared from the port, it never reached their respective destinations despite that it was gathered that over N161 million was said to have been spent on transportation, delivery and logistics.
In a expose made by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Mr. Turaki Hassan, who provided pictures of the bags of Rice that were no longer useful for human consumption after overstaying at the ports.
He said; “Further to the discovery of wastages and breach of public trust by National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), find above pictures of wasted rice as donated by the Chinese, which the agency refused to distribute to the IDPs in Adamawa and Taraba States. The items have become so bad and unfit for human consumption.”
