The Director of Personal Management of Jos North Local government in Plateau state, Hon Samuel Lohlum has disclosed that health department have help to foiled the outbreak of cholera in some communities in the council.
He stated this on Friday while speaking with our correspondent at the Tudun wada guest house in Jos.
He pointed out that the council has been able to curb the cholera that had ravaged the LGA through the enlightenment campaign from house to house with the help of the health workers.
Lohlum also added that the LGA have achieved this by carrying out intensive and extensive public enlightenment campaigns in the media on the need for proper hygiene , frequent washing of hands after toileting ,proper cooking of foods and treating uncooked fresh fruits with disinfectants to eliminate the cholera bacteria.
It could be recalled that there was an outbreak of cholera in Jos the state capital recently that led to deaths of some persons.
According to him” We also informed people on factors that can lead to the possible outbreak of cholera and provided drugs for emergencies and the need to maintain personal hygiene and environmental sanitation “.
Lohlum said the outbreak of the diseases was due to the last workers strike which led to scarcity of portable water and blamed the epidemic on the heaps of refuse that littered the streets in many neighbourhoods during the strike which served as breeding ground for vectors
“With the onset of the rainy season, such dirt was washed into various water sources which possibly led to the outbreak” .the director said.
He condemned the recent bomb blast in the area by congratulating Muslim ummah for successfully completing their Ramadan fast.
Hon. Lohlum tasked the citizens of Jos North Local government to preach peaceful coexistence among them by promoting love and understanding.
He cautioned people to be aware of strange object around their environment and report anything to security agencies.
