How Kanam Management Committee Chair, Allegedly Embezzled Over N150 Million

The management committee chairman of Kanam Local Government Area in Plateau has been accused of embezzling over N150 million during the just concluded 2017 Eid-el Kabir Sallah celebration.

In a petition signed by eighteen councilors in Kanam Local Government Area accused Hudu Hamadu Bale, the Management Committee Chairmen of administrative felony, nepotism and financial recklessness.

The petition was signed by the following councilors ,Ali Abdullahi Gwamlar ,Halliru Baba Mun Butbo ,Tasiu Dutse Kyaram ,Shuaibu Alhassan Kanam ,Abdulaziz Saleh Dugub ,Musa M.Bature Kunkyam,Ibrahim Muhd Dengi ,Farisa Garbage Jarmai,Abdullahi Muhd Kunkyam ,Hashimu Muhd Jom ,Salihu Muhd Kyansar,Usman Mu’azu Garga, Sallau A.Maraya Gyambar,Yaransa R.Titus Gidgid ,Zuberu Maimako Gagdi,Bala Ismaila Lantana ,Saidu Yakubu Namaran and Sakinatu Husaaini Gar/Bagyar.

The petition forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, said; “We write to expressed our dismay and present our complaints bothering on issues of administrative felony, nepotism, and financial recklessness against the management committee chairman”.

The councilors accused the management committee chairman of refusal to pay them monthly allowances for a period of 3 months but placed his families, friends and associates on salaries ranging from N20, 000.00 to N100, 000.00.

The statement blamed the management committee chairman of denying the secretary of the council his official car which has damaged since two months ago now.

According to the petition, the council boss since the inception of the APC under his watch squandered resources meant for the development of the people and they accused him of working hard to destroy the LG system by running the council as family business.

“We are therefore duty bound as Councillors and members of the management committee of Kanam LGA to remind him and ring a bell to the necessary agencies to caution him of how he is running administration”, the statement read.

They disclosed that financial misappropriations in handling of coffers of the local government which was exposed during the second financial and general purpose committee leading to bridge of communication.

The Councilors rejected the lopsided appointment of revenue committee headed by 7 man committee, as they added that committee are marred by irregularities, incompetence, inconsistent and unaccountability and are fraudulent.

The petition according to the petitioners was sent to Plateau Assembly committee on Local Government Affairs, Deputy Speaker and member representing Dengi constituency PLHA, Former Deputy Speaker and member representing Lantana constituency, Economic and Financial Crime Commission ,Independent Corrupt Practice and other related offences Commission ,ICPC, Management Committee Chairman Kanam LGA and the General Public.
