How Former Governor Jang Squandered Over N549 Billion Meant For State Development Between 2007- 2015-Plateau Accountant General

The office of Accountant of Plateau state, has said that the plateau state government during former Governor Jonah Jang squandered over N 548,664,640,654.90 between the year 2007 to 2015 fiscal year.

He disclosed that the total sum of 549 billion naira was said to have been received by the former accountant general between 2007 and 2015 fiscal year of Jonah David Jang, but the said amount cannot be accounted for.

Speaking as a Principal witness during the judicial commission of inquiry set up by Governor Simon Lalong to probe the eight years of PDP government, he said there was a lot of frauds that occurred in the office of the accountant general which contained mismanagement of statement of accounts report declare in his memo, No JCI/94/2016 dated 4th October, 2016.

However, it was alleged that some staff of the various ministries who were saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the commission got to serve the former commissioners and permanent secretaries refused by destroying some vital documents main for fact finding.

He listed some of the illegal contracts whose names couldn’t reflect on the MOU, and contract agreement which was signed during the Jang regime.

The chairman of the commission, Hon Justice Stephen Adah condemned the way staff of the commission and civil servants in the affected ministries who should be responsible and are now thwarting the efforts of the government in the process of facts finding.

He adjourned the sitting to. 7th November, 2016 to enable the commission serve the former permanent secretaries, commissioners and their agents to appear before the commission for thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, Elder Bulus Dareng, former commissioner for finance, Hon Davou Mang the office of former Accountant general, plateau state debts management, Plateau revenue service, Library and auditor general case filed was mentioned for the day sitting.

Our correspondent gathered the shocking revolution  on how staff of the ministries engaged in sharp practices to cover for their former bosses shady deals which is now  before the of  inquiry.

The chairman of commission ordered for stand down to 2 pm enable the ministries serve their counsels but still couldn’t yield any positive result.

He said, in the year 2015 N2.2 billion was received as small medium enterprises funds but disappeared and another N2.5 billion Paris club of 2011 was return to Plateau state government by Nasarawa state government as compensation for debts service, which money was deducted from Plateau for payment of London club debt.

The accountant general also traced some looted funds to Zenith bank account dated 23rd May,2011 to the tune of N 5 billion and another 8 billion naira water treatment plan to CPC contract.

According to him, mass looting occurred during the transaction and the documents which contact vital information were vandalised by unknown persons in the night.
