House Of Representatives Demands Sack Of Inspector General Of Police, Passes Vote Of No Confidence On Him

In an apparent show of disappointment and rage towards the attitude and comments attributed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, regarding insecurity in the country, members of the House of Representatives have called for the immediate replacement of the IGP with a more professional police officer.

The resolution, which was pushed through on the floor of the House on Wednesday, followed an amendment to a prayer in a motion under matters of urgent public importance moved by Honourable Nuhu Damburam (APC, Kano) calling attention to the rising cases of political thuggery in Kano State.

This was even as the Benue Caucus of the House also called on the IGP to tender an unreserved apology to the people and Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, for blaming the incessant killing by suspected Fulani herdsmen on the state’s Anti-Open Grazing Law.

Hon. John Dyegh (APC, Benue), who led the Caucus to brief the media earlier, had moved that Danburam’s prayer be amended to reflect that the IGP should be replaced by a better professional police officer.

Speaker Yakubu Dogara before ruling on the matter said: “If we amend, it all means we have passed a vote of no confidence on the IGP,” and the response was a unanimous yes!
