The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, has announced the new Nigeria Police Manpower Development Policy. The IGP announced this during the decoration of twenty-four (24) newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. The IGP noted that the Manpower Development Policy of the Force is a deliberate protocol to identify, elevate, and position professionally competent officers who will act as the Strategic Police Managers that will drive the new policing vision and give effect to strategies at responding to current and emerging security threats in the country. The Policy also prioritizes human capacity development and welfare of Police Officers for better police service delivery.

The IGP expressed his appreciation to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR for consistently committing to the Nigeria Police Reform Agenda. He thanked the Police Service Commission for supporting and aiding the new human capacity development of the Force and equally appreciated the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, the Senate and House Committees on Police Affairs, for their support to the police modernization, re-orientation, and re-equipment drive.

Meanwhile, hope is rising as the disbursement of funds, fuel, and other necessities to police stations and area commands continues nationwide. The enhanced fuel schedule became operational since the beginning of the IGP Alkali administration.

Police dumps across the country are dispensing daily, weekly, and fortnightly to station patrol cars prompting sighs of relief for the renewed fuel schedules. The Force has been plagued with a paucity of funds including acute fuel challenges. Officers interviewed for this piece told The New Dawn that it came as a surprise to them. There was an initial skepticism until it became regular like clockwork. “Though more is required, the fact that this is happening gives hope to everyone”.

Moreover, the monthly office running cost from the Force headquarters that trickled to a stop in the past has resumed with a blast. Though still short of what is needed, the package is more than it used to be and it is regular, too.

The Inspector-General of Police IGP Alkali Baba psc(+), NPM, fdc, has said that getting police stations running to their fullest potentials in efficiency and service delivery to citizens is one of his priorities. The IGP noted that police stations and area commands are the closest police formations and the first call-points of police-citizen interactions. He assured officers of the Nigeria Police Force that the Force under his leadership will see to the welfare of officers and the restoration of the dignity of service. The Force, he said, is working with the Federal Government, Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Police Service Commission to deliver a well-motivated Police Force to the people.

IGP Alkali enjoined officers to continue to give their best to the country despite the myriads of challenges facing the force.

In spite of the deliberate attacks on officers’ lives and stations, the police onslaught on crime across the country is sustained.
