Hausa Settlers In Naraguta Drags Army, the University Of Jos To Court Over Invasion, Demolition

The Naraguta Community of Jos North Local Government Council in Plateau State has dragged the University of Jos and the Nigeria Army to Federal High Court  Jos Division over invasion and demolition of 100 houses.

 

Fifty (50) Members of  Naraguta Hausa Speaking approached a Federal High court accusing the university of Jos of not following the right procedure before embarking on demolishing of houses that were built on the university of Jos plots.

 

The encroachment of the Jos University land which was bought since 1973, from the Naraguta mining company owned by the federal government and was sold for the expansion of the permanent site.

 

In their affidavit in support of motion ex-parte when one Sadisu Muhammad Musa with 49 others said that the demolition of their residential houses in Naraguta village was done illegally because now he is 35 years of aged spent his entire life to built and the university of Jos rendered them homeless.

 

The Plaintiffs are now lamenting that the management of the University of Jos brought a heavy presence of soldiers in army uniforms and began to demolished buildings belonging to their people under the watchful eyes of the Nigeria Army.

 

The Hausa settlers in Naraguta fingered one Sub Lieutenant Faruk Yusuf who was deployed from Operation Safe Heaven, Sector 1 in Jos North LGA for leading the operation, as the residential houses are unlawfully looted while the demolition was carried out by bulldozers and excavators under the watchful eyes of the representative of the first defendant colonel Chambak Rtd.

 

However, they complained that more than 100 houses including bungalows, jewelry, furniture, and schools certificate were not spare by bulldozers exposing their women to hazard.

 

Justice Dorcas Agishi adjourned to 16th of June,2020 for the Plaintiffs to deliver their letter of service to the registrar of the University of Jos , as they have sent in their application to obtain injunction order to restrain the university of Jos management from continuing with their project of building a fence around the university.
