For allegedly accusing and threatening to invoke the economic and financial crime commission EFCC, for the Governor, Imo lawmakers, government functionaries, including the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, the state commissioner for women Affairs, Lady Nma Love Onyechere, has come under severe knocks.
The female commissioner was reported on the front page of the Announcer Express newspaper of Monday, 25th August, 2014 edition to have made these comments to some Okigwe women during their August meeting.
She was also reported to have threatened to mobilize women in the area to vote against the All Progressives Congress, APC, should the party deny her kinsman tickets to fly its flag in the forthcoming senatorial election in the area.
But in a swift reaction, the All Progressive Congress Youth Mobilization Forum, in a statement condemned the reports credited to the women Affairs Commissioner and described it as a calculated attempt to smear and rubbish the reputations of members of the Imo State House of Assembly and achieve her selfish interest, as well as her pay masters.
The group through its publicity secretary, Mr. Ugo Anyanwu, chided Nma Onyechere for making what he called “beer parlour” allegations against government functionaries from the area with an intended result of blackmailing their ambition in 2015.
It noted that the uncivil conduct of the female commissioner was synonymous with her recent assault on Mr. Emeka Okoronkwo, a commissioner in the state local government commission which later earned her suspension, adding that the commissioner is notorious with hauling insults on elders.
According to the group, “it is unfortunate that lady Nma Onyechere would easily allow herself to be used as a willing tool to discredit the towering profile of the administration she is part of as a woman affairs commissioner, just to fulfill her bargain with the opposition. It is however, not surprising that this is coming from one, whose penchant for arrogance and disrespect for elders, fellow women and constituted authorities, as it could be seen when the governor slammed suspension on her for slapping Mr. Emeka Okoronkwo and the hiring of Afikpo women to represent Okigwe women in the just concluded Okigwe August meeting against the directive of the first lady”.
The group also called on the leadership of the APC in Okigwe zone to remain proactive and resolute in weeding out opposition implanted spies within its midst, as the recent threat to vote against the party by Nma Onyechere was a clear pointer to the fact that the opposition has infiltrated its fold ahead of the 2015 polls, adding such comment from a serving commissioner was premeditated attempt to scuttle the chances of the All Progressives Congress to convincingly win the 2015 elections.
It further urged relevant agencies of government in the state to call on the commissioner to come forward and substantiate such allegation, as according to it, “it would be uncharitable to sweep such matter under the carpet”
