Governor Inuwa Yahaya Sympathizes With Nyuwar Community, Vows To Bring Perpetrators To Book

The Governor of Gombe State Inuwa Yahaya has visited the communities of Nyuwar, Jessu, and Yolde of Balanga Local Government Area of the state, where following an attack in the area, suspected to be a communal clash involving Waja and Lunguda ethnic groups, which led to the loss of lives and properties worth millions of naira.

 

Governor Inuwa Yahaya who led heads of security agencies and top functionaries in the state interacted with youths on the remote cause of the crises, he also sympathized with them and assured them of his administration’s commitment to the safety of all individuals, as the government will not fold it’s armed while harm is being meted out on its citizens.

 

Speaking at Nyuwar, the representative of district head of Nyuwar, Mr. Yohanna Istifanus narrated to the Governor how the communities were stormed by attackers in the late hours of the night, and eight (8) people killed

 

He said “we were asleep with our families in our homes only to have seen an armed militia with various kinds of weapons setting our houses and food storage facilities ablaze and asking us to vacate from the land, else they will wipe the entire Lunguda tribal communities”

 

At Jessu, a community leader Mr. Jason Jase who conducted the Governor round said 7 persons were lost and several houses burnt.

 

The Governor also announced that adequate security has been deployed, and a curfew had earlier been announced until normalcy returns to the area.

 

In his words ‘I want to inform you that one of the measures we have taken was to impose a curfew to check movements of everyone and we have deployed security personnel to protect you until normalcy is restored.

 

“Let me extend my heartfelt condolences to you over the loss of precious lives and property as a result of this senseless act.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and as a responsible government we are conscious of our responsibilities of safeguarding the lives and property of our people”.

 

The Governor also appealed to the affected communities to cooperate with the government and security agencies and promised relief materials to the victims to cushion their sufferings.

 

The community leaders thanked Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his timely intervention.

 

With the Governor were the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manasseh Daniel Jatau, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Commissioner of Internal Security as well as the Commissioner water resources, the commissioner of Police, the Director SSS, the Commander 301 Artillery Regiment and the Chairman Balanga LGA among other government functionaries and security personnel.
