Worried by recent reports of misconduct by some revenue consultants, Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed an overhaul of the revenue collection protocol as it affects the Ministry of Environment and other agencies.
In a directive issued after today’s Eid-ul-fitr prayers, Governor Adeleke directed immediate stoppage of inherited collection model in the Ministry of Environment, mandating that all revenue consultants must enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government.
According to the directive, the MOU must be prepared by the Ministry of Justice, spelling out detailed modus operandi of activities and governing protocol for all revenue officers.
The state Governor who expressed shock at the reported activities of some revenue consultants directed that henceforth , no revenue consultant should operate without a standard MOU administered by the Ministry of Justice.
Governor Adeleke further instructed the affected MDAs to host an emergency meeting of all Revenue consultants to enforce the new directive and discipline erring agents.
While reaffirming his administration’s zero tolerance policy for untoward practices, the Governor promises severe punishment for any revenue agents found to be flaunting standard practices or engaging in sharp practices against the interest of the state.
“Our administration has zero tolerance for corrupt practices. We will sanction heavily, any official found indulging in practices against financial regulations. Immediate reform must be implemented as directed”, the statement concluded.
