Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi state Monday inaugurated nine man committee saddled to investigate major contracts award during former governor Yugada from May 2007- May 2015.
This was just as Abubakar had assured of restoring the economic development in the state in line with APC change mantra.
The purpose of the investigation according to the governor is to serve as a rescue mission and to salvage the state from the shackles of poverty, financial mis-management among others.
He noted that the current administration is determined to re-brand the state through positive policy direction in the conduct of government business to get the state back to track.
“As you know contracts were avenues where public funds are siphoned through poor execution of work, over invoicing and lack of proper supervision by the previous government agencies and the government is out to adhere to due process in contract execution to ensure accountability” Abubakar.
The governor noted that the appointment of the committee is not aimed at witch- hunting anybody, rather to establish wether due process was observed in the execution and payments of contracts and similar expenditures from 2007-2015.
The committee members he added were selected based on their integrity, competence and professionalism and charge then to bring their wealth of experience throughout the period of the assignment.
Abubakar appeal to all ministries, departments and agencies to cooperate with the committee and provide useful information to the committee.
“Government will not hesitate to dealt with any MDA’s or staff who refuses to cooperate with the committee during the assignment” the governor fumed.
Among the terms of reference is to investigate all contracts between May 2007- May 2015, investigate all major financial transactions as well as carry forensic audit of all state and LG finances among others.
The chairman, Alhaji Salihu Lukman Abubakar while Responding on behalf of the committee members, express appreciation for the honour accorded to them and assured of carrying the assignment diligently, fairness and justice.
He assured that nothing will distract the committee to carry out the tedious job to bring back the past economic glory of the state.
