Nasiru Darazo Sued Bauchi State Government, Pilgrims Welfare Board

A citizen of Bauchi, Nasiru Ibrahim Darazo has dragged the Bauchi State Government and the Bauchi State Pilgrims Welfare Board to a Federal High Court in Abuja for stopping him from attending this year’s Hajj.

Speaking to newsmen Darazo said that he was surprised that even after he met all the requirements expected of any intending pilgrim, he was stopped from performing this year’s Hajj by the Governor through the Bauchi State Pilgrims Welfare Board.

Darazo also stated that he also paid the sum of N800, 000.00 as fee required of any Pilgrim, even as showed the receipt of the payment to Journalists.

However, he said in his statement that he was told by board that there was order by the State Government not to allow him to carryout his religious obligation as Muslim, and as such the State stopped him from attending this year’s Hajj, thereby infringing on his fundamental human rights.

According to Darazo, he accused the governor that he stopped him from going to this year’s Hajj because he took the Governor to court asking to explain why he never got approval for the N4 billion loan he collected as required by law.

Darazo said when he was stopped by the State Government and Bauchi State Pilgrims Welfare Board, he wrote to the National Hajj Commission and according to him the Commission directed the State Government not to stop him from carrying out his fundamental human rights, but the Government wouldn’t heed to the directive,

However, as citizen of the State and of the country who believes in rule of law Darazo sued the Bauchi State Government and Bauchi State Pilgrims Welfare Board at the Federal High Court Abuja, the suit was filed by Nasiru Darazo as the Applicant, against the Bauchi State Government and Bauchi State Pilgrims Welfare Board as 1st and 2nd Respondents respectively.

In the suit dated 2nd August, 2016, Darazo is seeking among other an order directing the 1st and 2nd Respondents to allow, without any hindrance, the applicant to exercise his fundamental right to perform his religious worship of Hajj Pilgrimage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the authority, guide, protection, supervision and care of the 2nd Respondent.

He also sought One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (150,000,000.00) General and exemplary damage against the Respondents.
