Gov Al-Makura Call For The Domestication Of Social Media

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has raised alarmed over the rising spate of reports coming from the social media.

He expressed displeasure over the spring up of new outlet such blogs, Al-Makura started when the State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House,Lafia.

The governor said the emergence of social media has become an aberration of the tenet of Journalism calling on the Nigeria Union of Journalists to take a decisive measure in tackling the situation which he described as a time bomb ready to explode.

Al-Makura called on the leadership of the Union to improve on values of the pen profession by expanding the scope of the profession.

He also called on Journalists in the state to abide by the code and ethics of Journalism by balancing their reportage before going to the press, saying only balancing of reportage would add value to the system.

The governor commended the NUJ for a successful election of the new crop of leadership at the state council.

He applauded the newly elected official of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Comrade Jamila Abubakar for her emergence as the national vice President of the Association.

Al-Makura also commended the election of Muhammed Danmusa as the national vice President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria all from Nasarawa.

The governor described their victory as a reward for their unflinching commitment to the affairs of the Union.
