Gombe LGAs Advised To Avoid Over Dependence On Oil Revenue Sources By Kalshingo H Jedidah

Speaker-of-Gombe-State-House-of-Assembly-Mr.-Garba-Inuwa-360x3821Gombe State, Local Government Chief Executives have been advised to diversify sources of revenue generation rather than over dependence on oil revenue sources in other to achieve rapid economic growth in the state.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of 2015 budget defence by local governments at Gombe State House of Assembly Yesterday, the GSHA speaker, Alh Inuwa Garba expressed that overdependence on oil revenue sources is not healthy for the economy of the state and the country at large. He advised that, local governments in the state should begin to create other means of creating wealth at local level in other to diversify sources through which the economy would grow.

“I want to call on you the Chief Executives of our various local governments to create and refresh ways for revenue generation, we can’t continue to depend on oil, we can’t continue like this, we cannot move this way. Government has been lamenting on this for long. He added.

Similarly, the ALGON chairman, and chairman Gombe Local Government, Alh Ibrahim Sadiq Abubakar state in an interview with journalists that, the budget defence which is meant for community services would go through due process after which it would be implemented according to what is obtainable.

He said, the local government chief executives would continue to put more effort towards revenue generation in other to ensure real budgets performance that would benefit the communities which they represent.

Chairman, Funakaye Local Government, Alh Usman Ribadu, also told reporters that, the budget defence was in accordance to the provision of the 1999 constitution which provides that, every local government should defend its budget before its state legislative body for review and amendments.

Earlier, in his remarks, Chairman Appropriation Committee, of the State House of Assembly Alh Mohammed Danazumi Adamu has stated that, implementation of Local Government budgets have been experiencing a lot of hitches over the years, he said, the committee is working towards building a better system that would stand the taste of time.
