GOC, OPSH Abubakar tasks Media practitioners to promote trust, accountability and national cohesion

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division, also serves as the commander of OPSH Jos, Plateau, Bauchi and Southern Kaduna State has admonished Journalists to use media in projecting, promoting transparency, accountability and to hold the society accountable for their actions and building confidence amongst citizens.

Speaking during a one -day media training for Journalists on media coverage of military operations at Great links Hotel, Gold Base, Rayfield, Jos organized by the Correspondent’s Chapel, NUJ, Plateau State in collaboration with Operation Safe Haven (OPSH)

Maj. Gen AE Abubakar represented by Brig.General. M.O.Agi says, in his keynote address harped on ethical guidelines for Journalists in the field of theater operations that the programme is timely and inherent of building military, media relationship.

He tasked Nigerian media practitioners to build trust and promote togetherness as one of the ethics of the professional discipline because security, accountability are dependable role of Media in a democratic society.

According to him, the ethics and sensibility and national security play an important aspect that media practitioners most guide against during their reportage instead of publishing every information available to the organization.

Adding, ethics guidelines is fundamental to accountability and balance reporting during conflict and crises including accuracy with respect on confidentiality, dignity to human lives in the affected families under attacks.

Abubakar the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment…has been involved in several conflicts, including the Nigerian Civil War, the Chadian–Nigerian War, the Zaki Biam massacre, and the Boko Haram insurgency. Maj. Gen Abubakar takes over as the new GOC 3 Div.

Abubakar advised Journalists not to be over sensitizational while reporting military operations but should consider the landmark of accuracy which sometimes lead to media, military through their unbiased reports.

He pointed out that the should not forget those families involved in conflict, we are cautioning the practitioners to be objective and balancing of their report also get the facts, details before going to press.

Abdulsalam disclosed that media can be use for dousing tension and improve national cohesion instead of aggravating the situation in their reportage.

So, let work together to encourage and promote Nigeria security by appealing to participants to work in collaboration military to build trust and confidentiality in our duty post.
