A political juggernaut from Nkwerre LGA of Imo State, Nze Geoffrey Maduagwu (GMT) has frowned at the continued suspension of the some Imo House of Assembly members, especially the suspension of the member representing Nkwerre State Constituency, Hon. Prince Obinna Okwara.
GMT who spoke with newsmen in the state called on the leadership of the Imo State House of Assembly to look into the matter patriotically and ensure the recall of the lawmaker and his other suspended colleagues.
Chief Maduagwu expressed displeasure on how the mandate of the people, an instrument of good governance is being submerged in the intrigue of political interest.
Maduagwu, who is also known as “Chief Akaraka of Nkwerre” noted that the continued denial of the people of Nkwerre LGA their fundamental legislative sense of belonging was highly unacceptable.
According to him, ” This is an unforgivable atrocity to the people of Nkwerre LGA”.
He, therefore, called on all sons and daughters of Nkwerre LGA to rise to the occasion and demand an end to this unfair treatment of the lawmaker.
Nze Maduagwu, a successful businessman and a notable opinion leader informed that it is unlawful and unfair to throw the entire Nkwerre LGA citizens with about 200,000 Constituents into legislative darkness thus denying them their fundamental and democratic legislative participation in the hallowed chamber.
According to GMT, ” This is very unthinkable to say that Nkwerre LGA will be blind in the legislative business of Imo State House of Assembly because as it is now, nobody is there to protect their interests”.
On the issue of inviting the lawmakers to interface with the Adhoc Committee, Nze GMT informed that he has read where the lawmakers denied being invited and wondered why Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, aka Dele, the member representing Owerri West LGA will want to play deceit politics with the interest of Nkwerre LGA because according to him, Hon. Obinna Okwara, a member representing Nkwerre LGA made it public that no such invitation was raised to them.
GMT more so-called for the amendment of Assembly rules in other to protect the constituents from ugly situations like this because it is not acceptable to throw a whole LGA into oblivion because of political party interest.
“At that level, we should be talking about Governance, not politics. Hon.Obinna Okwara is the member representing Nkwerre State Constituency, not a particular political party, GMT added.
On the impact of the suspension, the Akaraka of Nkwerre informed that it is indescribable because the damages are immeasurable and no Government should watch its citizens subjected to such a situation because it is a de-market to the government and the party in power.
