Chief Amos Yaduksu Gizo, the magajin Garin Gidgid, Wakili Jhar, and Ajiyan Kanam have condemned in its totality the fresh attacks in Plateau and Taraba states by suspected gunmen who invaded four settlements in Kanam and some parts of Taraba, describing it as barbaric and senseless.
Chief Amos Gizo made this known during his official declaration held at the Plateau APC Secretariat on Monday for the race for the Plateau State Governorship seat.
He stated that if given the mandate there will be zero tolerance, for godfatherism and a government of family and friends. There will be an equitable distribution of appointments and infrastructures cutting across the 3 senatorial zones.
There will be a fair representation at all facets, saying, we will design a master plan that will reflect the thinking of our founding fathers and make life more meaningful to our people, he said.
Amos disclosed that his formal declaration as a gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) of Plateau state
He said,” I have come to your Council’s Headquarters today to formally intimate you on my desire to contest for the number one seat of Plateau State, that is the Governorship position in 2023 God’s willing, As you are all aware, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong will be completing his tenure on May, 29th, 2023, and a need for a successor is therefore inevitable as nature abhors vacuum thus my willingness to fill it under our amiable Party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) which by God’s grace is prepared to retain the seat for the next 8years and thereafter”.
He pointed out that, APC is a party made of great men and women, the youth and the elderly, Christians and Muslims, and even those that belong to other religions as spelled under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
” We as a people believe that power comes from God and he gives it to anyone he desired at whatever point in time. We trust that we may find favour this time so as we can change the narrative by His special grace,” he stated.
According to him,” my aspiration is premised on a 3Rs pillar that will usher in a new dawn of hope for the People of Plateau State which are Redefine, Reconstruct and Restore the lost glory of Plateau State.
You will agree with me that the dream, the inspiration, the vision and mission of our founding fathers have been eroded by a lot of factors that have grossly destroyed our collective heritage”.
We no longer trust one another, the dividend of democracy that our people toil to harvest is scarcely there and hope is lost not because of any particular leader, but system failure which can only be corrected with great sacrifice from both the leadership and the citizenry, he added.
Speaking further, Gizo said, “We as a people must redefine our common destiny as to what we want and the resolve to live together as one indivisible people under God, to be our brother’s keepers as envisaged by our founding fathers, only then can progress come to all the facets of our society”.
The renowned journalist revealed that the security challenges we are currently facing are caused by our human errors which our leaders seem to neglect. Plateau State used to be the bride of other states and Jos was rated 3rd after Kano and Kaduna in the North but sadly enough, Sokoto, Katsina, Ilorin, Maiduguri, Minna, and Yola have surpassed our rating with even new generation states like Bauchi and Gombe beating us in developments.
Amos Gizo told journalists that the crisis and insecurity that has bedeviled Plateau State for some years. This is caused by a blotting population rise and the challenges of unemployment. The teaching and indoctrination of religious fundamentalism to its adherents by both Christians and Muslim clerics is a major problem that has eaten deep into the fabrics and psyche of our state, he added.
We must be able to moderate our faith and tolerate one another in order to build a strong and virile state for the good of all. It is our responsibility to protect our people as any government that fails to provide security for its citizens has no legitimacy to be in power.
The 3Rs I believe, will put us on the right path and will help us to restore our state to its hitherto glorious position if we all resolve to redefine it. How then do we redefine our state? We can only redefine it if we all agree to be one people forgetting where we come from, our tribes, religions, and social status but making a collective will to live as one.
We must redefine our priorities and introduce new approaches to achieving our goals. Plateau is so blessed with a good climate and tourist sites good for all Agricultural crops found even in the foreign land and locally. Our Tourism potential must be exploited and Agriculture must be encouraged in order to build a strong food supply system for our people as the world over is facing the disaster of food shortages.
The influence of war-torn countries has found its place on the Plateau. It has divided us along fault lines and trust is lost. We must restore confidence by building Trust in our people.
the primordial causes of our divide line must be put aside as peace is needed in the reconstruction of Plateau State. Once that is done, businesses and other infrastructural developments will take place.
Our Government will concentrate on securing the citizens and developing tourism, laying a sound Healthcare delivery system, mechanized agricultural system, rural development, access road networks, water supply, and electricity.
He decried that, if we reconstruct our decayed infrastructures, we would have been close to restoring our lost glory. Because previous administrations in the state shifted drastically from the Plateau master plan to other misplaced priorities, we have sadly found our state into this miserable stage that needs to be restored with the cooperation of all.
He condemned the white elephant projects introduced by some administrations that did not follow the pattern designed by our founding fathers such as the Late Commissioner of Police, Joseph Dachi Gomwalk of blessed memory.
Gizo lamented that if given the opportunity his administration will pursue projects that will have a direct impact on the lives of the citizenry and we will fight corruption to a standstill as it has deeply eaten into the fabric of our system.
We will build a strong revenue base from our internally generated revenue and shall drive Plateau into the digital age, this we solemnly pledge.
I am aware of the way and manner my colleagues are being treated, that they are turned into begging citizens, the role of the media is that of a society molder as no other profession brings peace, good health, education, entertainment etc like our dear profession. Under my leadership, this disdain treatment shall no longer see the light of the day. I count on your professionalism and prayers.
