One of the living legends of President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s era of Nigeria Supreme Military Council, General Jon Timlong, has commended IBB for the creation of Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State in 1991.
General Timlong stated this at the Book Launch in Jos on Saturday, saying that the former President IBB rewarded them for their absolute loyalty and honesty in the coup that dethroned the General Buhari regime.
According to him, the three Tarok sons represented in Nigeria Military Supreme Council were General John Nanzip Shagaya, Lt. General Joshua Nimmyel Dogonyaro, and Jon Timlong, who were honoured with Langtang South when the decision for the creation was presented.
He said that they immediately contacted Dr. Nandul Durfa after a series of unfortunate accusations coming from the people of Plateau that why Langtang South, but he took the bold step to present vital documents from the 1947 history of the resettlement area of soldiers’ war veterans.
However, he explained further that the lowland people of Yergam native authority gave birth to creation of the council even though they were answerable to Muri province, Taraba Division, since before the creation of the state in 1976.
General Timlong applauded the stakeholders for their overwhelming support of the creation of the council, but charged the youth to revamp and rewrite their own history.
According to him, we must strive to achieve meaningful development as a people and have strategic planning on policy on how to enhance the economic well-being of our people.
He maintained that the major challenges of Langtang South is accessible road network, water scarcity, and the quality of education to promote understanding of the areas, especially the rural populace.
Meanwhile, the writer acknowledged the present sons and daughters of Langtang South LGA, and disclosed that the importance of bringing the ideas was burnt out passion to have written documents on the resettlement area and the surrounding villages.
He explained that with the advanced technology of AI, we need to present a short documentary on the history of the people of the Tarok natives to the world.
We need to narrate our own stories about the culture and the lives of our communities that have suffered from accute water scarcity during the dry season, and with recent technology, we should take advantage of it.
Mantim exray that the community was bush after the 1948 the second World War veteran through their resilient sacrifices were honoured with land to settle here, but there are no documents account on them, but the book unveils their list and gave vivid narrative essay on them.
He presented a short documentary on guidelines from Late General John Nanzip Shagaya, Alh. Abdullahi Nimlang, other worthy sons of Langtang South LGA.
The book reviewer, Prof. S. T Mbap, recommended that the book should be for all the sons and daughters of the council.
He made a passionate appeal to the youth of the council to work towards addressing the history of the people through more unity and togetherness.
Mbap went down Memory Lane to pinpoint some of the challenges while growing up as a pupil path to school in Daurowa, primary school mabudi were they trekked kilometers away from home to school.
He stressed that time and resources give people the opportunity to rediscover themselves in the struggle to improve their well-being through peaceful coexistence amongst them.
Prof. Mbap urged the generation to create a conducive atmosphere for those yet unborn to benefit from it and imbibe the culture of oneness.
Langtang South people are currently going through a lot because the documentary video shows the plight of the suffering of communities.
