Gbemi Saraki, Others Are Right To Condemn The Shady APC Membership Registration In Kwara State
The courage and gallantry of Senator Gbemisola Saraki, the Honourable Minister of State for Transport, is commended for having openly condemned the illegal membership registration exercise of the APC being orchestrated in Kwara State by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak and his motley crowd of political urchins in the state.
By openly registering her displeasure over the shenanigans being played out in Kwara State, Senator Gbemi Saraki has only but joined a long list of party leaders, stakeholders and members who have condemned in no unmistakable terms the shoddy and cowardly manner the membership registration exercise has been conducted so far across the 16 LGAs of Kwara State.
For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Saraki is not the first to have raised an issue about the exercise, and she won’t be the last as long as the guidelines of registration exercise are still being so flagrantly flouted.
It will be recalled of recent that, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Honorarable Minister of Information equally condemned the shady manner the registration exercise was being conducted in the state. Incidentally, the very Ode-Opobiyi registration unit where Senator Saraki registers and votes was specifically spotlighted in Alhaji Lai Mohammed’s press release then as one of the places where the illegality was being perpetrated. That Sen. Saraki would come home more than a month after to meet and reconfirm the same sorry situation on the ground says a lot about the disdain Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak has for his fellow party leaders, in this case serving Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In Ilorin West Local Government Area where Senator Gbemi Saraki hails from, majority of other party bigwigs like Prof. Oba Abdulraheem, Alhaji Lukman Mustapha, etc have not only been denied the chance of registration, they have all also registered their grouses with an exercise that deregisters than registers.
What about Hakeem Lawal and his open rejection of the shady registration process? What about Alhaji Abdullahi Yahman, Tajudeen Audu of Edu Local Government area, Hon. Bio Ibrahim, etc who have at one time or the other expressed their displeasure?
How about complaints of generality of party members across the state against manners of handing the exercise?
Like Senator Gbemi Saraki, these are respected party leaders who Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq seeks desperately to ridicule out of the party. Is this how Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq intends to compensate for the years of struggle of all these stakeholders who suffered through thick and thin for the party?
Senator Gbemi Saraki, likewise Alhaji Lai Mohammed is a thorough party member who has paid her dues for the party in no small measure. As a Minister from Kwara, she has used her good offices to advance the party and its members through numerous social intervention programmes, employment opportunities, appointment slots, among others. Just recently, the Ministry that she superintend started the construction of an Institute in Asa LGA of the state. These are concrete and verifiable accomplishments. It would take a special kind of blindness for anyone not to see or acknowledge all these.
We are proud of the achievements of Senator Gbemi Saraki as a representative of our party at the national level. We are even prouder of her show of courage and leadership by condemning the shenanigans playing out in her unit and across her Ajikobi ward. History will be kind to her and her likes who do not keep quiet in the face of the tyranny of the minority.
Senator Saraki has the full support of the genuine State Executives of the party to take up the matter of the ongoing daylight robbery in the Kwara APC with our national leadership.
