A mild drama was played out at the Plateau State House of Assembly during their Thursday plenary as to how few minutes’ actions of the Former Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Ibrahim Baba-Hassan saved the Speaker Rt Hon Peter Azi from aggressive 20 members who were out to immediately impeach him.

The Members who expressed worry that the management committee chairmen have overstayed their welcome since the dissolution as elected chairmen by Governor Simon Lalong.

The protesting Members on Thursday couldn’t bear the constant extension of the management committee chairmen, even as it was alleged that they will always come and buy their way through the key members in the House of Assembly.

It was gathered that they all agreed to impeach Speaker Azi if he insists to continue to maintain those management committee chairmen against the backdrop of political blackmail from the opposition.

As learnt by universalreportersng.com while this was going on, the Speaker was unaware that the members were secretly signing the impeachment letter waiting to be announced, while an unknown speaker who was to take over from was already seated watching the drama unfolding within, however the swift action of Hon Ibrahim Hassan saved the Speaker, as he was the one that took the signing notice to the Speaker intimating him of the impending doom should he go ahead with the extension of tenure of Local Government Committee Chairmen, and this action by Hassan who  called on the Speaker Azi to dissolve them, a decision he wholeheartedly accepted rather than sacrificing his office and allow the 17 chairmen walk the path of lonely darkness alone.

Universalreportersng.com gathered from an assembly source that the interim Committee Chairmen allegedly mapped out money that will be used to lobby the assembly members in order to have their tenure extended, but this medium gathered the money didn’t get to all the members as it was also alleged that the money only got to hands of only a few members of the House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State House of Assembly has just approved the dissolution of interim transition committees across the state but no day has been fixed for the conduct of Local Government elections to usher in elected chairmen who are democratically in nature.

The People Democratic Party has accused the Government of APC for the absence of democracy at the local government level owing to the fear of losing the state to the opposition party.

It is on a note that the legislature terminated the appointments of the committees at its sitting at the State House of Assembly chambers, which is supposed to allow for the fresh conduct of local government election.

PLÀSIEC has earlier promised to conduct free and fair exercise few days to election indefinite suspension and few months to the expiration of tenure Interim Committee Chairmen.
