Fresh Crisis Hits APGA, Members Call For Resignation of National Chairman

Crisis is brewing in the All Progressives Grand Alliance as some members under the umbrella of APGA Aggrieved Aspirants Forum, have called for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party.

The angry group, which addressed a news conference on Thursday in Awka, claimed that Dr Victor Oye, APGA National Chairman, lacked the capacity to lead  the party to victory during elections.

Leader of the forum, Chief Onyeka Mbaso, said that Oye’s poor handling of the party resulted to the abysmal performance of APGA’s candidates during February 23 presidential and national elections across the nation.

Mbaso said: “It was very painful that APGA National Chairman who ought to be shining example for the party, failed in his polling unit and was unable to produce either House of Representatives or a Senator in Anambra during last election.

“The outcome of the election was clear indication that the party was already nose-diving in the hands of Oye and we can’t seat back to watch APGA die in the hands of a foreigner in our party.”

Mbaso said that more than 400 aggrieved APGA aspirants in Anambra planned to work against the party in the House of Assembly polls on March 9, if the money spent for the purchase of nomination forms was not refunded.

He said that the aspirants had lost confidence in the abilities of National Chairman of the party and the National Working Committee.

Mbaso said that after a parley with the reconciliation committee of APGA and Governor Willie Obiano, it was agreed that their money be refunded.

He said: “The abysmal performance of the party in the presidential and national assembly elections last week was just a tip of the iceberg to what will happen on March 9, if our demands are not met.”

He said that the governor knew the implication of what would happen on March 9 in the House of Assembly election, if the party failed to refunded them before the next election.

He said: “We are calling on the governor to meet with the aspirants and ensure that our demands are met.”

Reacting, Dr Victor Oye, APGA National Chairman, told NAN that members of the forum were not known to the party.

Oye said it was not possible for the party to refund money used in the purchase of form to any aspirant who could not make it during party’s primary.

APGA failed at Obeakpu polling unit and the entire community in Amawbia during February 23 elections with PDP candidates winning in both Awka North and South Federal Constituency in addition to the Anambra Central Senatorial District.
