Flood: How Water Pipe Saved An Aide To Ex-Senator Al-Makura From Drowning

An aide to the immediate past Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial district of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, was saved by a water pipe supplying water from Doma reservoir to the town from being drowned in a flood during a heavy rainfall.

Adamu Alhassan, who was rescued by people from the neighborhood, missed a step while crossing a stream to his house during a heavy downpour on Saturday evening.

The fast-moving water pushed the occupant of his vehicle at least 200 meters away from the main road to his house. The unfolding scene saw neighbors and family members swing into action to rescue him.

All efforts which include the breaking down of the driver’s windscreen to save his life as the vehicle kept floating on top of the flooding water, not until it was stopped by a water pipe.

Onlookers at the scene blamed authorities for neglecting the life-threatening gully erosion that has taken over houses and plots for buildings.

After he was rescued and taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia for a thorough check, at the time of filing this report, the victim has since been discharged from the hospital.
