Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has reviewed and relaxed the curfew earlier imposed on Lamurde Local Government Area following noticeable improvements in security and a return to calm in the area.

The decision was announced in a statement signed by Humwashi Wonosikou, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor. According to the statement, residents are now permitted to move freely between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily, with immediate effect.

The adjustment comes after a 24-hour curfew was enforced in response to recurring communal clashes between the Bachama and Pire (Chobo) communities. The violence reportedly resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property.

While easing the restrictions, Governor Fintiri issued a stern warning to those responsible for the unrest. “This gesture shouldn’t be taken lightly. Those behind the violence have been identified and will face consequences. The era of leniency is over; anyone breaking the law will be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.

The governor urged law-abiding residents to resume their normal activities peacefully, assuring them of the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. “The government will protect your rights and freedoms, but won’t hesitate to act against troublemakers,” he stated.

He also appealed to leaders and members of the Bachama and Pire communities to sustain peace and maintain order, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in preventing further escalation of the long-standing dispute.

The statement reaffirmed the state government’s determination to restore normalcy in Lamurde while maintaining strict enforcement measures against any renewed violence. Security agencies have been directed to monitor compliance with the revised curfew hours and respond swiftly to any emerging threats.

The curfew relaxation follows a series of interventions by the state government, including peace meetings and security engagements aimed at addressing the root causes of the communal tensions.
