Founded in 1978, the Federal Government Girls’ College Langtang, an all-girls school is situated along Pankshin road, Langtang, Plateau State, is among the foremost Unity Colleges in the country which has stood the test of times, but the recent events that happened in the school, may after destroy the long good antecedents of the school if not nipped in the bud by authorities concerned as has been witnessed as unfortunate and first of its kind in the history of the college since it was founded many years ago.

An investigation carried out by this medium, shows that there is palpable confusion at the Federal Government Girls College, FGGC, Langtang as students alleged accused the principal Mrs. Oghenedoro Helen Nsing of using means which seem not right to instigate and cause chaos within the college whereby it is alleged that the SS2 Students are being set against setting Junior classes as well SS3 and SS1 of the college.

Things destroyed in a classrooms during the fracas

Worried by the magnitude of damage caused by the students in the college they’re accusing the principal of the college of instigating them against each other, leading to the destruction of properties and damaging of some of their belonging though no life was in the fracas.

The Former PTA Chairman, Mr. Lakai while speaking said, as parents It became necessary for them to break their silence over the ugly happenings because things are becoming very horrible and the reputation of this once famous federal institution in Taroh land is gradually about to be thrown to the mud.

He narrated that the situation became worse about a month ago, where allegations of misunderstanding between the principal of the school and students and that the principal alleged the teachers instigated the students, specifically the SS2 to misbehave, and due to that one of them was expelled from the school.

The Chairman Concerned Parent  Teachers Association, PTA,  Pastor Illiya Mangvwat, parents FGGC LGT and the immediate past PTA Chairman  Lakai .J. Jacob confirmed the report and described the scenario as unfortunate and first of its kind in the history of the college since the created the school many years ago.

Mangvwat called on the Federal Ministry of education to constitute an investigative panel to unravel the immediate causes of the break-in academic calendar of the college where students are completely denied from attending classes.

Pastor Illiya lamented that as parents, their children have lost the academic calendar which has crippled their future, so if the incident is probed it might serve as a deterrent and that would forestall a future recurrence.

He explained further that this action led to students’ demonstration of action taken by management where SS2 students were punished for nothing and the matter didn’t go down well with them.

Pastor Illiya noted that the unruly behavior of the principal must be reverted as those students remain innocent of the accusations leveled against them.

He alleged that the principal actions snowballed into the demonstration by the students fingering the principal as the one who incited the   SS3, SS1, JSS3,2 and 1 against the SS2.

Pastor Mangvwat raised an alarm that the encounter was very ugly to an extent of students, destroying some school properties, including some vehicles within the premises.

Consequently, the Principal forced SS2 out of the school for about three weeks without any communication coming from the Federal Ministry of Education he added.

However, the PTA Chairman says when the suspended SS2 students were recalled back on Wednesday last week they discovered that all their personal belongings had already been destroyed by other students, including books.

According to him, the college rescheduled to kick start promotion examinations after their long absence from the school without revision, no single document was left.

Pastor Illiya cautioned that as the ugly situation climax, it was alleged that prior to students’ resumption day fears has been created within the school hostel as the students rejected the accommodation citing fear of nothing untoward to happen to them.

The Chairman revealed that to punish them the principal ordered that they should be relocated somewhere else where they suffered brutal punishment meted on them for stiff resistance.

Presently, Pastor Illiya disclosed that the principal brought the heavy presence of security personnel to chase away the students out of the hostel by claiming that she received instructions from the Federal Ministry of education to send them home until 9/10/2021.

As concerned parents, this action is not only worrisome but suspicious because the school from inception has not witnessed such and perhaps our detractors are plotting to deny our children’s rights to acquire education,” the chairman said.

He appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the college crisis and save their children and wards from the embarrassment.

“We view the destruction and punishment meted on the SS2 by the principal as an indictment to the college management and the failure of the college principal as a leader coming to the slow pace of academic standard of the long-standing school renowned school for over the years in Nigeria as ranking high in the SSCE and NECO exams.

Efforts to speak with the principal of FGGC proved abortive as she didn’t answer calls placed to telephone and a text message was sent to her, she didn’t reply at the time of filing this report.
