FCTA Denies Imposing Levy On Secondary School Students

The Director, Federal Capital Territory Secondary Education Board, Mrs Nanre Emeje, has denied imposing any levy on Senior Secondary school students in the nation’s capital.

A civil rights organisation, Initiative for Citizens’ Rights, Accountability and Development had on Wednesday alleged that students were compelled to pay N1,500 per session against the official fees by the FCTA.

However, speaking to newsmen on Thursday, Emeje explained that the levy being paid is N500 per session, stressing that parents through the PTA came up with the arrangement.

“The levy is not from the government, it is a private arrangement so they are those that decide where they will be paying the money, it is purely a PTA project not FCT Administration project, or FCT Secondary Education Board.

“There is feedback from the schools, even at the board we also monitor the school management system,” she said.

She also said the PTA engaged Shokami Consulting Limited to provide digital teaching and learning for schools in the territory.

Emeje added that the board adopted the project and played an advisory role because some students were not showing their report cards to their parents.

She said, “The whole project and programme are under PTA, the parents are those that engaged the consulting firm. I am aware that the PTA took on that project because of digital teaching and learning, I believe that they looked at it and saw that it was a worthwhile proposal for them. It’s entirely a PTA project, I believe they have their own agreement.
