Family Of 5 Consumed By Fire In Bauchi

Five people have been confirmed death while properties worth millions of Naira were lost as a result of a fire incident that happened at Makara Huta quarters in Azare town of Bauchi state.

The fire which started at about 3 am on Tuesday, took several hours for men of the state fire service to stop it.

A neighbour of one of the victims who lost his life in the incident Malam Umaru Shehu, said the deceased has struggled to save himself from the inferno but to no avail as he was finally over powered by smoke.

The victim who is a local Islamic religious teacher Malam Jamilu Musa Zaria, his wife Yusra and their three children died while trying to escape from the ravaging fire.

He urged the state government to establish more fire fighting stations and equip them with modern fire fighting vehicles and gadgets to prevent losses during fire outbreaks.

In a related development, property worth thousands of Naira has been destroyed in a fire disaster along old Kano road in Azare.

Although no life was lost in the incident, but property worth thousands of Naira were destroyed.

Reports indicated that a house belonging to one Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim was completely destroyed by fire including all properties in the house.

Speaking with newsmen, Alh. Ibrahim thanked Allah for enabling him with the support of good Samaritans to successfully evacuate his family from the house.

He thanked all those who contributed in one way or the other towards saving the lives of his wife and other members of the family from the disaster.

Meanwhile, the Katagum Zonal  Fire Officer of the State Fire Service Alhaji Sagir Namama Shira, has confirmed the two fire incidences.

Alh. Sagir Namama Shira explained that the cause of the fire incidence which claimed five lives had nothing to do with electric faults as the affected house power supply, was cut off by the Jos Electricity Distribution Company
