Executive Secretary SEMA Jigawa Accuses NEMA Of Sidelining Jigawa Disaster Victims And Refugees

Jigawa state Emergency Management Agency [SEMA] has accused the National Emergency Management Agency [NEMA] over what it called sidelining of disasters victims and internally displaced persons living in the state in terms distribution of relief materials.

The executive secretary of the Agency Alhaji Yusuf Sani Bubara gave the bashing   during a press briefing in office saying that this year no single consignment of relief materials allocated to the state.

He said that Jigawa was second  in terms of  accommodating IDPS,  who came from the North East while hundreds of people experienced various form of disasters this year in the state, ‘’ we have Internally displaced person  in the state , ‘’we have  victims of flood disasters  windstorm and rainstorm together with victims of  heavy rains with blocks in the state, but yet nothing  is supplied to the state  relief assistance  for the victims from the Federal government this year,’’ Sani Babura  further stated.

Alhaji Yusuf Babura alleged that the director general of NEMA Alhaji Mustpah Maihaja deployed over 1000, trailers of relief materials to his state Yobe, and kept the materials in stock lying wasted in order to please his kinsmen at the expense of the victims.

‘’Every blessing day we see  over 100 trailers loaded with  food items ,clothing drugs  with tags UK ids, UN aids, USAID aids, passing through Jigawa  but yet , despite the fact that  IDPS from  the north Eastern states live in Jigawa comfortably, but the DG  turns down our requests’’, he lamented.

He said that his Agency wrote so many request to NEMA and invited their assessment teams to Jigawa state to see for themselves the extent of loss incurred by victims of flood, wind storm disaster, as well as victims who lost their food and cash crops as a result of heavy down pour together with ice blocks   In some parts of the state, but NEMA left on its deaf ears.

The Executive secretary disclosed that   now they have on recorded through the reports that over 1000.00 households rendered homeless but the NEMA were yet send a single consignment as relief assistance to those victims.

He also  castigated  senator  represent Jigawa  East senatorial zone and member  representing Gumel, Ggarawa, Sule tankarkar and  Maigatari Federal Constituency who  chairman    House of representatives committee on IDPS Comrade  Muhammad Sani Zorro for hijacking  the relief materials meant  for Jigawa  state and keep them in Kano which they distribute  to their constituencies  with a view to achieve their selfish political motives.

Babura then called the presidential committee on IDPS, its counterpart of flood as well as NEMA to honour their  requests so that they assist the such disaster  victims  IDPS of the state.
