Nasarawa state governor, Engr. Abdullahi has said that he will construct new road networks in Tungan Nupawa community.
The pronouncement by Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule saw the Tungan Nupawa community erupted into jubilation.
The Governor gave the news during the flag-off of the Fishing Festival, which was the first of its kind since the creation of Nasarawa State in 1996.
Sule said the State Government would commence the construction of the road project early next year.
Saying the construction of the road would open a window of opportunities, increase the internally generated Revenue of the State as well create job opportunities for the teeming youth.
The Governor buttressed that the State Government will partner with investors to develop the fisheries sub-sector.
He however warned fishermen to shun water pollution as well as shun poisonous fish or the use of dynamite and other explosives that are hazardous to human lives
Engineer Abdullahi Sule commended the committee for doing a wonderful job, which he said translates to the occasion people are witnessing today, The Governor also lauded the traditional ruler of Assakio, Osula Inarigu, and the State Commissioner of Agriculture and Water Resources for a good job done.
He also presented consolation prizes and awards to the best fishermen as well as cash donations, The winners are Jibrin Ibrahim, third place, Tunga second place, and the first best is Aliyu Abdul.
The Chairman of Lafia Local Government and Chairman of Local Government of Nigeria, Hon.Aminu Mua’zu Maifata eulogies the Governor for keeping his promise to revive fishing sites in Nasarawa State.
He appealed to the Governor to rescue his people who is in squalor, stagnation, agony and deprivation and urged his people to support the Engineer Abdullahi Sule administration.
The Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the Council of Chiefs, retired Justice Sidi Bage Muhammed said nurturing fishing as an occupation will reduce the rising waves of mass exodus by youth to another part of the State.
The State Chairman of Fisheries Cooperative and Aquaculture, Hon. Muhammed Bashir Umar, In his vote of thanks, commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for standing firm for fishermen.
He also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for ending the unabated Fulani farmer skirmishes.
He however described the event as historic in the history of Nasarawa State, being the first time the State has organized such an event which was meant to restore the dignity of Fisheries trade and improve the economic value of the trade.
“Your Excellency, what we are witnessing today will serve as a great legacy for the generation yet unborn as long as the fishing activity is concerned”.
“They were only organized locally not until now that it was taken over by the State, not until under your reign that you have changed the narrative as a result of the magnitude of development attached to it and will impact on the livelihood of people in the area of food security and job creation”.
“Artisanal or small scale fisheries are the largest employer of any agricultural sector occupying an estimated 30 percent people around the State which include a significant number of youth, women cut across the seven value chains”.
Hon Bashir Umar Mohammed reeled out some of the challenges of the Association including intermittent and unabated water pollution, Nasarawa operating with obsolete water law while our members were sidelined from the ongoing palliative.
